Our Story

About the Confraternity

The Confraternity of Saint Arethas and Companions is a dedicated lay association committed to honoring Saint Arethas and his Companions.
Rooted in the teachings of the Catholic Church and under the patronage of the Apostolic Vicar of Northern Arabia, we aim to foster unity, charity, and spiritual growth among our members.

Mission

Our mission is to bring Christ to the world through acts of kindness, prayerful devotion, evangelization, and support for each other in our spiritual journeys as we honor the holy martyrs.

Vision

The Confraternity of Saint Arethas and Companions dedicates itself to upholding the values of charity, unity, and evangelization, inspired by the heroic virtues of our patron saints. We pledge to nurture a vibrant lay association rooted in faith, service, and cultural heritage, entrusting our mission to the intercession of Saint Arethas and his Companions.

The Confraternity of Saint Arethas and Companions finds its roots in a significant spiritual event: the Extraordinary Jubilee commemorating the 1500th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Arab saints, celebrated across the Arabian Peninsula from 24 October 2023 to 23 October 2024. This Jubilee was a momentous occasion, uniting faithful communities throughout the region to honor these martyrs, who are revered for their unwavering commitment to Christ even unto death.

The Jubilee brought about a profound spiritual renewal, as Catholics across the Arabian Peninsula deepened their devotion and were inspired by the martyrs’ heroic witness. Seeing the abundant spiritual fruits borne by this year-long celebration, the Apostolic Vicar of Northern Arabia recognized the opportunity to cultivate and sustain this renewal. He envisioned a confraternity that would carry forward the devotion to Saint Arethas and his Companions, preserving the momentum of the Jubilee and fostering a lasting legacy of faith.

In establishing the Confraternity, the Apostolic Vicar aimed not only to reinforce this devotion among the local faithful but also to extend it beyond the Arabian shores, reaching Catholics worldwide. This vision reflects a mission to nurture a community that embodies the same virtues the martyrs exemplified—courage, charity, unity, and a steadfast commitment to the Gospel. Thus, the Confraternity stands as a bridge between the past and present, ensuring that the witness of Saint Arethas and his Companions continues to inspire generations across geographic and cultural boundaries.

Our activities are diverse and aim to fulfill our mission. We promote devotion to the saints through feast day celebrations, processions, and educational and cultural events. Members are encouraged to study and research the lives and virtues of Saint Arethas and his Companions. Regular pilgrimages to Najran offer opportunities for deepening spiritual journeys. We organize charitable events and outreach programs to serve society and support those in need. We collaborate with local parishes and engage in activities directed by the Apostolic Vicar of Northern Arabia.

The Confraternity provides an avenue for those who have left the Gulf to continue their faith experience and be united with the Apostolic Vicar, offering a supportive community rooted in Catholic values.

Our relationship with the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Arabia is central to our identity, ensuring all activities align with its teachings. Led by a Council of Elders, elected every three years, we plan and coordinate activities in pursuit of our mission and values.
